2nd Shift Shelter Advocate

Annual Salary Range $17,000-$24,000

Full Time. 40 hours per week. Shift Differential offered. Every other weekend required and some holidays required. Duties include: Staff crisis hotline, which primarily includes crisis counseling for sexual assault and domestic violence issues, provides information and referrals and appropriate personal supplies, provide group counseling, assess resident needs through regular supportive interactions, conduct individual counseling, admit and orient residents to shelter including distribution and review of shelter packet and completion of exit forms, and ensure general housekeeping of the Shelter.

Qualifications: One of the following: BS in Social Welfare, Psychology, Social Services, or related field. Associate Degree related field plus two years’ relevant experience. Four years’ experience in related field.  Strong counseling skills. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and in a group setting. Flexibility and strong organizational skills. Must have a valid Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, and FBI Criminal Background Check. A valid PA driver license. Successful completion of The Women’s Center of Columbia/Montour, Inc. counseling/advocacy training within the first 90 days of employment.

Sexual Violence Counselor/Advocate

Annual Salary Range $17,000-$24,000

Full Time- 40 hours per week. Every other weekend required, some holidays. Duties include: Provide long and short term counseling to adult and child victim/survivors of sexual violence, staff crisis hotline, participate in agency on-call system, provide information and referrals and appropriate personal supplies, manage weekly sexual violence focused and structured support group, assess resident needs through regular supportive interactions, conduct individual counseling, maintain safe shelter environment, admit and orient residents to shelter including distribution and review of shelter packet and completion of exit forms, and ensure general housekeeping of the Shelter.

Qualifications: One of the following: BS in Social Welfare, Psychology, Social Services, or related field. Associate Degree related field plus two years of relevant experience or four years’ experience in a related field. Medical Advocacy Coordinator

Annual Salary Range $22,000-$34,000

This position is a full time, defined as 40 hours per week, non-exempt position.  The primary duties include developing, expanding and overseeing the Medical Advocacy Project of the Women’s Center, Inc.  The Medical Advocacy Coordinator works cooperatively with hospital personnel to forge changes on an institutional level, to provide training and guidance to hospital personnel, and to provide individual counseling to victims as needed.  In addition, the Medical Advocacy Coordinator is responsible for providing back up to the hotline as required.

Requirements:

Qualified applicants must have one of the following:

  • Masters in Social Welfare, Psychology, Social Services, or related field or
  • BS in Social Welfare, Psychology, Social Services, or related field plus two years relevant experience or
  • Six years experience in related field

Applicants must have:

The ability to communicate effectively and be organized and flexible, obtain a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check, and FBI Criminal Background Check.  Successfully complete the Center’s counseling/advocacy training required in the first 90 days of employment.  Valid driver’s license required.

Medical Advocate

Full time. 40 hours per week, non-exempt position.  Duties include: Providing direct services including, crisis intervention, options counseling and case management services to domestic violence and sexual assault elderly victims in medical settings throughout Columbia and Montour Counties, advocate for victims in medical community multi-disciplinary teams, participate in agency on call system, victim compensation assistance, facilitate support groups, follow-up counseling, individual advocacy, emergency legal advocacy, and emergency financial assistance.

DELTA Program Coordinator

Annual Salary Range $28,000 – $34,000

Full time. 40 hours per week. Duties include: develop an educational, community based coordinated response team, manage all progress reports and statistical analysis related to CDC Delta grant, implement CDC approved curriculum at local school districts, and systems advocacy within local school districts.

Qualifications: Must have one of the following MSW in Education, Social Work, Human Services or related field; Bachelor’s in related field, plus one year of prevention experience or High School Diploma with four years of prevention experience. Ability to use basic office equipment including, but not limited to, copy machine, fax machine, typewriter, and computer. Flexibility and strong organizational skills. Substitute Advocate

Salary Range $9.50-$12.00 per hour

This position is a part-time, non-exempt position. The primary duties are to provide shelter coverage on an as needed basis; including overnights, weekends, holidays and weekdays. It is the function of the substitute advocate to staff the hotline during these hours and provide support to the clients in shelter.
Job Duties

1. Staff crisis hotline, which primarily includes crisis counseling for sexual assault and domestic violence issues. Provide information and referrals for hotline.

2. Assess resident needs through regular supportive interaction with them.

3. Provide empowerment counseling to residents on a regular and as needed basis.

4. Enforce shelter behavior guidelines with an encouraging and cooperative attitude among residents.

5.Address resident needs by providing them with adequate personal supplies.

6. Admit and orient clients to shelter including distribution and review of shelter packet and completion of exit forms when residents leave shelter.

7. Assist residents by providing them with information and referrals.

8. Initiate and complete, in a timely manner, all client related paperwork and data entry.

9. Conduct individual counseling with shelter residents when needed.

10. Carry out the duties of the position in a professional manner.

11. Contribute to a positive work environment.

12. Any other related duties assigned by the Department Supervisor.

Qualifications:

1. Must have one of the following:

      a. BS in Social Welfare, Psychology, Social Services, or related field.

      b. Associate Degree related field plus two years relevant experience.

      c. Four years experience in related field.

Legal Advocate

Annual Salary Range $17,000 – $24,000

Full-time: 40 hours per week, non-exempt position.  The primary duties are to provide legal options, prepare and file Protection from Abuse petitions and related documents, to provide transportation to and from Protection from Abuse hearings and/or related judicial processes, to conduct educational legal trainings in a variety of community settings, to provide accompaniment for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or incest.  Service provisions rendered at offices located in Columbia and Montour Counties.

Qualifications:

  1. Must have one of the following:
    1. BS degree in Pol. Science, Pre-Law, Social Work, or related field.
    2. Associate degree in paralegal studies or counseling plus two years relevant experience.
    3. Four years’ experience in related fields.
  2. Knowledge of and experience with criminal justice system and civil court.
  3. Ability to prepare legal documents.
  4. Knowledge of Protection from Abuse orders, divorce, and custody issues.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively and be organized and flexible.
  6. Ability to present legal education trainings in a variety of settings.
  7. Ability to work and travel between agency offices.
  8. Successful completion of Center’s counseling/advocacy training.
  9. A valid PA driver’s license.
  10. Act 33 & Act 34 clearances required.
